For athletes, being on a box of Wheaties is a dream. It means you’ve really made it — you’re not just successful, but you’re also a role model. And now Russell Wilson can finally cross “be on a Wheaties box” off of his bucket list, because the Seattle Seahawks quarterback has been chosen as the next athlete to appear on the signature orange Wheaties box.

As you’d expect, Wilson was honored and humbled to be chosen as a Wheaties Champion.

“It’s truly an honor to be a part of such a great American tradition. Like so many kids who love sports, it was always my dream to be on the front of the Wheaties box. Seeing all the great champions on the box inspired me. I am humbled to have my name added to the iconic list of Wheaties Champions.”

Wilson’s perseverance is one of the reasons he was chosen to grace Wheaties boxes. He was told he was too small to play football, but overcame that challenge to become successful NFL quarterback and help win his team a Super Bowl. Wilson also does charity work that embodies the philosophy his father taught him: why not you? Wilson’s Why Not You foundation works with young people to help them become the leaders of tomorrow.

Wilson joins some incredible company. Wheaties has been featuring athletes on their box since 1934, with Lou Gehrig being the very first. Over the years, Wheaties has honored athletes like Muhammad Ali, Mary Lou Retton, Wayne Gretzky, Lindsey Vonn, and Steph Curry. Most recently, Kyrie Irving was on a Wheaties box. Wilson’s box will start showing up on supermarket shelves in October 2018.
