Russell Westbrook, John Wall thank Houston and D.C. after trade: 'I did my best to make you proud'

After nine seasons, John Wall is leaving the Washington Wizards. Though Wall’s time with the team never resulted in a championship, Wall has plenty to be proud of during his tenure with the franchise.

Wall expressed some of those feelings in a thoughtful thank you note to D.C on Thursday. In the letter, Wall tells his fans, “I did my best to make you proud.”

Wall thanked the fans for sticking with him through good times and bad. He said that even though he will no longer wear the Wizards jersey, he “will never forget what it meant to represent for y’all.” He ended the letter by refusing to say goodbye to the city. Instead, Wall just said “THANK YOU!”

Russell Westbrook thanks Houston for embracing him

While Russell Westbrook only spent one season with the Houston Rockets, he felt the love from the fans. Westbrook also thanked the team and its fans for all the support they gave him during his only season with the team.

Westbrook called his time in Houston a “great experience.”

After thanking the Rockets and their fans, Westbrook turned his attention to the Wizards. He said he was looking forward to his next chapter with the Wizards.

Russell Westbrook and John Wall headline major NBA trade

The Rockets and Wizards swapped Westbrook and Wall in a deal that took the NBA by storm Wednesday. The Wizards also sent a first-round pick to the Rockets in the deal.

Big things are expected of both players with their new teams. If the Rockets keep James Harden, Wall will be tasked with trying to push Houston to the next level. Though the team has been in contention the last couple of seasons, the Rockets haven’t won a championship with Harden.

The Wizards will hope a bounce-back season is possible now that Bradley Beal and Westbrook are together. The Wizards went just 25-47 last season, but that was without Wall, who missed the entire year due to injury. After acquiring Westbrook, the team will look to get back into playoff contention.
