Ruby Rose got emotional while discussing her new groundbreaking role as Batwoman for the CW. It was announced that she’ll portray Batwoman in a show that will be the first to focus on an LGBT superhero.
In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she recalled her reaction: “I kept, like, spontaneously crying. I feel like I’m probably going to do it now.”
She added that she found out just moments before the premiere of her new movie, The Meg. Rose, who is also lesbian, revealed that the casting has special meaning to her.
She held back tears as she told Fallon, “I feel like the reason I keep getting so emotional is because, you know, growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody on TV that I could identify with. Let alone a superhero, you know?”
The Orange Is the New Black star said she’s lived by two mottos. The first, an Oscar Wilde quote, is “Be yourself, because everyone else is taken.” The second is, “Be the person you needed when you were younger.” It looks like it’s coming full circle for her.
