Royce Gracie Joins Bruce Lee in Upcoming EA Sports UFC Video Game

Royce Gracie hasn’t fought in the Octagon since 2006, but soon, he’ll be back… if only virtually.

EA Sports on Tuesday revealed that Gracie would be one of the unlockable characters in the new EA Sports UFC video game.

Much like the recently announced Bruce Lee character, EA Sports UFC gamers will be able to unlock and fight as Gracie’s character by either taking the black belt route of finishing the game on its Pro setting or going the white belt way and pre-ordering the game for immediate access.

If anyone is a UFC pioneer it is Royce Gracie. He won three of the first four tournaments the promotion ever head, back when the UFC began, sporting almost no rules and no time limits. Of his three tournament victories, he had to win three fights in one night on two occasions, while winning an astounding four fights in one night to capture the tournament crown at UFC 2.

Gracie is a UFC Hall of Fame member and once fought Kazushi Sakuraba in a legendary 90-minute battle under the Pride Fighting Championships banner.

EA Sports UFC is slated to be released on June 17, and will be available for both PS4 and Xbox One.

The game is the promotion’s first edition under the EA banner after having previously developed its video games with THQ.
