Teams across the CFL honoured those affected by the tragic bus crash which claimed the lives of 16 and injured 13 other members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey teams in Week 3.

While all teams showed their support by wearing a ‘Humboldt Strong’ decal on the back of their helmet, the Saskatchewan Roughriders dedicated their Week 3 contest to the community by making it the ‘Humboldt Strong’ game.

Both the Roughriders 13th Man statue and their team mascot, ‘Gainer the Gopher’ were rocking Broncos uniforms in support of the event.

The Roughriders were also selling specially made Humboldt Strong merchandise prior to and during the game at Mosaic Stadium to help raise money for the Humboldt Strong Community Foundation.

The Broncos were in attendance and honoured before kickoff. Team members in attendance were also treated to a tour of Mosaic Stadium and both the Alouettes and the Roughriders provided the special visitors with some sweet memorabilia.

Leading the charge for Saskatchewan was defensive lineman Eddie Steele who was waving a ‘Humboldt Strong’ flag before his team stormed onto the field to a roaring ovation from the crowd. The coin toss prior to the game also was catered to the Broncos as the referee used a team puck for the flip.

Although the Roughriders dropped the contest 23-17, the night itself was a massive win for the team, the CFL, and all on hand at Mosaic Stadium.
