Roughrider Day at hockey game in Arizona

In another sign there are no geographic limits to Rider Nation, March 3 is Roughrider Day at an Arizona Coyotes hockey game.

The Coyotes are playing the Anaheim Ducks tonight, but before the game gets underway, there'll be a pre-game meetup at a bar between fans of the CFL club and Rider wide receiver Chris Getlzaf.

Regina-born Getzlaf is the older brother of Ryan Getzlaf, who is a centre for the Ducks.

The first 350 Rider fans who register will be able to partake in a post-game photo op on centre ice.

There will also be a special Rider Nation section to let fans of the Green and White sit together.

Gregg Sauter, the vice-president of marketing for the Riders, said the Coyotes were on board right away when the idea was presented to them.

"This is an opportunity for them to build a relationship with a big, strong, you know, fan base here that loves football and then also loves hockey," he said. "It's kind of a win-win-win for everybody — with the fans and the Coyotes and us."

Sauter said the team is already looking at ways to expand the event for next year.
