Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix Reportedly Welcomed a Son and Named Him River

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix have reportedly welcomed their first child. According to BuzzFeed, Russian director Viktor Kossakovsky broke the news (maybe by accident) during a Q and A at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival.

When asked where Phoenix was, Kossakovsky replied saying that he wasn't there because he "just got a baby," a "beautiful son." He also revealed that they named their child River, likely after Phoenix's late brother, "Stand by Me" star River Phoenix who died in 1993.

In a recent interview on Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes,” Phoenix opened up about his brother's death. “River was a really substantial actor and movie star, and we didn’t really know it,” he said.

He also discussed that time after he died and the impact it had on him. “So during that time in which you’re most vulnerable, there are helicopters flying over. There are people that are trying to sneak on to your land. Certainly, for me, it felt like it impeded on the mourning process," he recalled.

Neither Mara nor Phoenix have confirmed the news, but that hasn't stopped many fans from being touched by the reported name.
