Will Ronda Rousey Get an Immediate Rematch Against Holly Holm?

UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm Reportedly Tops 1 Million Pay-Per-View Buys

Former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey suffered he first career loss and relinquished the belt on Saturday when Holly Holm knocked her out in the UFC 193 main event.

Rousey had dominated her twelve previous opponents and defended her UFC title six times. She was the first UFC women’s champion and her popularity rose to levels unheard of for a mixed martial artist.

It’s unclear if Rousey will get an immediate rematch at the title, but UFC president Dana White said during the event’s post-fight press conference in Melbourne, Australia, that another fight against Holm “makes sense.”

“Obviously, we don’t make fights the night of the fights, but a rematch makes a lot of sense if the rematch is what people want to see. I mean, it changes a lot of things now, the Cyborg [Cris Justino] fight, some other stuff that we were working on,” he said.

Holm thinks a rematch should happen, especially considering what Rousey has accomplished. To Holm, a rematch is just common sense.

“I think a rematch makes sense for sure. I’ve been on the losing side of a fight and wanted a rematch, wanted to avenge my loss. With a champion like Ronda, who has gone out of her way, above and beyond to do great things, absolutely she deserves a rematch,” said Holm. “I think a rematch is just unspoken common sense to me.”

Rousey was transported to the hospital for observation because she was knocked unconscious. She suffered a laceration to her lip that required stitches. White indicated during the event’s Post Show that Rousey didn’t appear to have any other injuries.

Rousey said during the lead up to the event that she was going to “disappear” for a while after the fight. It’s unknown how long of a break the former champion plans to take, but there’s a fight waiting for her when she returns.
