Ronald Acuña Jr.'s first big-league homer was a thing of beauty

Not all homers are created equally. Some, let’s face it, are just prettier than others. And some, let’s be real, are more special than others.

Ronald Acuña Jr., the Atlanta Braves youngster who is the No. 1 prospect in MLB and made his big-league debut this week, managed both in his first ever big-league homer. He mashed it in the second inning Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds. It’s special — because the first one always is, but boy, was it a thing of beauty.

Yep, that there is what you want your first homer to look like. It’s still special if it barely clears the fence or lands a few rows back. But who doesn’t want the tape-measure, second-deck blast?

The guy who caught it obviously did. Look at him catch the ball, grab his backpack and run away — like he was Charlie and he just found Willy Wonka’s final golden ticket. Let’s hope he wasn’t running to put it on eBay!

It might only become more valuable, dude. Acuña, 20, has all the makings of a baseball superstar. He can hit for the power, hit for average and steal bases — last year, working his way from Single-A to Triple-A, Acuña hit .325/.374/.522 with 21 homers, 82 RBIs and 44 steals. The future is bright in Atlanta.

And this beautiful homer, it’s likely to be the first of many.
