Robert Lewandowski found another record to break in Bayern Munich's win Saturday (video)

Robert Lewandowski owns a bunch of records already, and added another to the list on Saturday.

Lewandowski scored for the ninth consecutive game to start the season as Bayern Munich beat Union Berlin 2-1 to take back the lead atop the Bundesliga table.

No one had ever scored nine straight matchdays to start a German top-flight season. Then again, the league has seen very few players the caliber of Lewandowski, who is also the Bundesliga’s all-time leading foreign scorer and owns a number of scoring records related to efficiency and expediency.

Canadian international Alphonso Davies, who starred in his country’s 2-0 win over the United States earlier this month, was deployed at left back and featured in the build-up to Lewandowski’s goal. Davies played a give-and-go with Kingsley Coman to move up the left and slid a pass into Lewandowski from the wing.

Lewandowski turned centrally and appeared to attempt another pass out wide. Instead, it deflected off the face of Union Berlin’s Felix Kroos and back to Lewandowski’s feet.

The Polish superstar thanked the fates for their service and unleashed an expert finish into the right corner (via FOX Soccer):

It proved the be the game-winning goal as Sebastian Polter cut the lead in half with a late penalty for Union Berlin. Benjamin Pavard scored Bayern’s opener.

The seven-time reigning German champions have had some suspect results to start the season, but the league as a whole has traded stumbles.

It’s players with a cutting edge like Lewandowski who will make the difference, and he proved that once again on Saturday.
