Resurrection sweeps West Union for 1A high school baseball championship

One wasn’t enough for the Eagles.

Resurrection Catholic has earned its second Mississippi 1A state title in as many years with a 10-1 win over West Union in the finals on Thursday.

The win gave RCS the sweep in Pearl and its second title in school history.

This year’s journey to the finals, the school’s third consecutive trip, was an especially emotional one. The Eagles are champions again just seven months after the passing of head coach Lee Tingle to a rare brain disease.

Led by coach Aron Frederic, RCS overcame a four-run deficit to take game one, 8-7. “What a gritty performance by our guys,” Frederic told capitalsportsms.com.

Justin San Miguel drove in three runs in game two and the Eagles used a six-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
