Yahoo Sports Reports: Chicharito to LA Galaxy is nearly a done deal
The Los Angeles Galaxy appear to have found their new star striker.
Mexican international Javier Hernández will join the five-time Major League Soccer champions from Sevilla, according to reports from Gibrán Araige of TUDN and ESPN Mexico.
ESPN Mexico reports the deal will be finalized on Wednesday.
Araige reports the fee is $10 million for Hernández, commonly known by the nickname “Chicharito” (or “little pea”) given to him by his father.
Hernández has spent nearly a decade in Europe since moving to Manchester United from Guadalajara in 2010. He scored 59 goals for United and won two Premier League titles before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, and he also played for Real Madrid (on loan) and West Ham United before joining Sevilla last summer.
But reports say Hernández was told he doesn’t factor into Sevilla’s future plans, which caused him to explore transfers. Now it seems he’s gotten his wish.
As have the Galaxy, who found a big name to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Hernández is only 31 years old, and his movement and opportunism will bring a different dimension to the Galaxy’s attack.
The club is no stranger to signing international stars, having counted Ibrahimovic, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Ashley Cole among its ranks.
Hernández is also Mexico’s all-time leading scorer with 52 goals in 109 appearances. His international teammate, reigning MLS MVP Carlos Vela, expressed excitement over Hernández joining LAFC’s El Tráfico rival.
