The Toronto Raptors have re-signed shooting guard Pat McCaw to a two-year deal, according to Blake Murphy of The Athletic.

McCaw, 23, joined the Raptors mid-season after a strange exit from the Golden State Warriors. McCaw was a restricted free agent, but he wiggled out of that arrangement by signing an unguaranteed deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, before eventually latching on with the Raptors. In doing so, McCaw became a three-time champion as he was also part of the Warriors’ titles in 2017 and 2018.

In 26 appearances with the Raptors, McCaw was mostly a fringe rotation piece but he did show signs of promise. The 6-foot-6 guard is a dogged defender and has cat-like quickness off the bounce that allows him to get to the rim. The biggest knock on McCaw, however, is that he’s an extremely hesitant shooter that can go weeks between shot attempts. Nevertheless, the Raptors clearly saw enough from McCaw to invest further in his development.

Looking at the bigger picture, it’s clear that the Raptors are crafting an identity around being young, athletic, and defensive-minded. McCaw is stylistically similar to the likes of Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who were also signed in the immediate aftermath of Kawhi Leonard’s departure.
