Report: QB Blake Barnett is transferring again

Blake Barnett is reportedly looking for another new school.

The former Alabama quarterback is leaving Arizona State after a season and is pursuing a graduate transfer according to Sports Illustrated. His first visit is to South Florida.

Barnett started the first game of the 2016 season for Alabama. As the Tide blew out USC, Barnett was replaced by Jalen Hurts at quarterback. He never started for Alabama again and announced in late September that he was transferring.

He chose Arizona State in December of that year and got a waiver to be immediately eligible instead of having to sit out the first four games of the season. His 2017 season likely didn’t go the way he envisioned it.

Manny Wilkins was the Sun Devils’ primary quarterback throughout the season. Barnett appeared in just two games and was 3-5 passing. Now he’s heading to a different school and will be immediately eligible in 2018 since he’s a graduate transfer.

If he goes to South Florida, Barnett would compete to replace Quinton Flowers at QB. The USF QB, one of the most productive players in the nation in 2017, is expected to be a late-round pick in this weekend’s NFL draft.

Barnett was a four-star quarterback in the class of 2015 according to Rivals and the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He was, coincidentally, one of four quarterbacks former UCLA QB Josh Rosen rattled off in a pre-draft interview with NFL Network on Tuesday. Rosen is expected to be one of the first quarterbacks taken Thursday night in the first round of the draft.

In his answer that included Barnett, Rosen mentioned how Barnett was supposed to be a guy who went to Alabama to win a couple titles and head to the NFL in 2018 after being the MVP of the Elite 11 high school QB camp. That’s not exactly how it happened. We’ll see what the next step of his college career holds.
