Police have arrested and charged the ex-wife of slain former NBA player Lorenzen Wright in connection with his death, the Associated Press and Memphis Commercial-Appeal report.

Wright was murdered in Memphis in 2010 in a case that went unsolved for years. But on Dec. 5, police arrested a Memphis man, 46-year-old Billy Turner, and charged him with first-degree murder in the case.

Now, Sherra Wright-Robinson has been arrested in California and charged with first-degree murder as well. Turner was a deacon at the same church Wright-Robinson attended in Memphis.

Wright was shot at least five times in July 2010, and his body was badly decomposed when found several days after his death. Investigators were not able to nail down any leads until a gun police believed was involved in Wright’s death was found this November in the case that had been long-cold.

Shortly after finding the gun, police arrested Turner. Turner has a lengthy record from the 1990s that includes theft, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, attempted aggravated assault, attempted kidnapping, burglary and a cocaine charge, the Commercial-Appeal reports.

Now Wright-Robinson is in custody. The report does not state what she has been charged with.

She told the Commercial-Appeal early on in the investigation that she was not a suspect. A 2010 search of her home did not produce enough evidence to charge her.

“They was like, no, you know,” she said. “It was just kind of a person of interest. They said that the list was long and wide and they didn’t have any real suspects.”
