Yahoo Sports Report: Cam Newton still in walking boot, but could practice Wednesday
As the Carolina Panthers continue preparations for their Sunday road game against the Arizona Cardinals, it’s apparently still up in the air who will be playing quarterback.
On Wednesday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Cam Newton is still in a walking boot because of the re-aggravation of a mid-foot sprain he first suffered during the preseason.
Rapoport tweeted that the Panthers will know more about Newton’s status “soon,” and if the 30-year-old is able to practice, he’s “got a shot” at playing on Sunday. If he doesn’t practice on Wednesday, it’s unlikely he’ll play against the Cardinals.
Newton did not practice on Tuesday, and general manager Marty Hurney confirmed that Newton had bothered the left mid-foot sprain he first suffered against the New England Patriots, scrambling away from a defensive lineman.
The 2015 NFL MVP was brought along slowly this offseason because of shoulder surgery in late January, but was still hurt in an exhibition game.
