Reilly Smith Placed As Healthy Scratch With Struggles Continuing

Reilly Smith is a healthy scratch for the New York Rangers in their Saturday afternoon matchup against the Montreal Canadiens.

This comes as Chris Kreider and Filip Chytil returned from upper-body injuries.

The Rangers are currently on a five-game losing streak as they are in desperate need of an offensive spark, which is most likely why Peter Laviolette decided to keep Brett Berard in the lineup over Smith.

New York acquired Smith during the offseason from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick in what was the team’s biggest splash of the summer.

Through 22 games, the 33-year-old has recorded three goals, nine assists and 12 points while averaging 15:28 minutes per game.
