Regina Sports Hall of Fame announces new inductees

The Regina Sports Hall of Fame is honouring six people for their contribution to sport.

The inductees are:

- Rich Preston, hockey: Preston played 580 NHL games with 127 goals, and 388 WHA games with 133 goals. Preston went on to serve as assistant coach in the NHL and head coach and general manager in the WHL.

- Gord Poulton, alpine skiing: Poulton has long been an avid downhill skier who became a certified coach leading the local alpine racing teams, beginning in the mid-1970s. After his son Mike became paralyzed in a ski accident, he became involved in para-alpine teams and a participant in the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi.

- Marlene Hoffman, volleyball: Coached and served on organizing committees and boards for several volleyball associations including Sask Volleyball and Volleyball Canada. Hoffman received a Sask Volleyball lifetime membership in 1993 and was inducted into Sask Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2015.

- John Hoffman, bowling: He has been involved at the organizing level since 1966 when he became president of the Regina 5 Pin Bowlers Association. Hoffman was declared a lifetime member of bowling associations of Regina, Saskatchewan and Canada. He helped create the Bowling Federation of Saskatchewan.

- Larry Wright, hockey: Started with the Regina Pats in 1967 and was drafted eighth overall by the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers in 1971. Wright spent five seasons in the NHL and also spent time in the AHL and the CHL.

- Tyler Wright, golf, basketball: Wright was the University of Regina's men's basketball MVP three times, and President's Award Winner in 2002. He set several single-season scoring records and ended his career as third all-time for points scored. Wright was also the Golf Saskatchewan's Men's player of the Year and Order of Merit Winner in 2014.

The inductees will be honoured at a ceremony on Oct. 8 at Evraz Place.
