Red Wings rookie Dennis Cholowski scratched on his bobblehead night
The first 7,500 fans who arrived at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night for Detroit’s matchup against the Ottawa Senators received a Dennis Cholowski bobblehead.
It’s a fairly big night for a young player finding his way in the NHL, but there was just one problem. Cholowski wasn’t in the lineup.

The rookie, who has been out of the lineup for the last few games, was a healthy scratch on his special night. The timing obviously wasn’t great, and Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill seems to be making a habit of benching Cholowski at incredible inconvenient times.
So Blashill has scratched Cholowski 5 times this year, & they were:
-his first game back in his hometown with family and friends there
-one of the games on the dad’s trip, with his dad there
-his bobblehead nightHe really couldn’t scratch him the other 77 games of the season?

Cholowski was sent down to the Grand Rapids Griffins following Detroit’s 3-2 win over Ottawa, so it looks like the youngster won’t be subjected to any more embarrassing scratches for the rest of the season.
Cholowski got off to a hot start for Detroit this season, recording eight points in his first 11 NHL games, but hasn’t recorded a point since January 11th and has a has a team-worst minus-20. Blashill believes this move is “the best move for his [Cholowski’s] individual development.”
