The Perfect Human is back with Detroit.

Legendary Detroit Red Wings defenceman Nicklas Lidstrom has been hired by the team as its new vice president of hockey operations, the Red Wings announced on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old will remain operating in Sweden, his homeland, but will have more than enough say on the on-ice product that the Red Wings will put out with former teammate and fellow franchise legend Steve Yzerman at the helm as the team’s general manager.

During his playing career, Lidstrom was known as possibly the greatest blueliner ever to play the game, and one of the most humble players off the ice. During his 20-year career, all in Detroit, he won seven Norris trophies as the league’s top defenceman, was on 12 All-Star teams, and lifted the Stanley Cup a total of four times. These accolades earned him a first-ballot induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.

The Red Wings were never on the outside of the playoffs during Lidstrom’s lengthy career, so will it be the same for him being in the front office? Only time will tell.

Detroit and its young roster are sitting just four points out of the second Wild Card spot with a 16-16-4 record.
