After the first lady wore the green Zara hooded parka with graffiti on the back while boarding a plane to visit a child detention center in Texas in June, feminist fashion label Wildfang created a similar item in response to the “distasteful” fashion choice. The brand’s “I really care, don’t u?” coat retailed for $98, and 100 percent of its profits went toward RAICES (the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services), which provides free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees in Texas.
Now, more than a month after customers placed their orders, many are getting their hands on the statement jackets. Here’s how they’re styling the looks — and what they’re saying about them.
Thank you @flotus for inspiring @wearewildfang to design this jacket and raise over $250,000 for @raicestexas 👌🏻 #Ireallycare #ireallycaredoyou #minneapolis #flotus #potus #raices #keepfamiliestogether #standup #takeastand #wearewildfang #wildfang #advocacy #advocate #dogood #venta #bienesraíces #nuevolistado #wehavetogoback #instagram #instapic

I REALLY CARE. DON'T U? . . . That's why we do what we do, right? because we care? Tapping into what I care about is one of my best and easiest ways to motivate myself when I feel stuck. Stuck in my writing, stuck in my personal growth, stuck feeling helpless about so many issues happening in the world. I don’t actually think social media post change much but i do think they can help us feel more connected to each other, less alone in our struggles, our pain, and our fear, but also in our joy, our caring, and our love. Love as much as you can as hard as you can as often as you can. What do you care about? What drives you? And how can we all love a little harder today? . . . Gratitude to @wearewildfang for making this awesome jacket (not an #ad i just really love the jacket and what it stands for) and for making fashion that matters. #wildfeminist #loveharder #ireallycaredontu #caremore #motivationmonday #feminism #feminismisforeverybody #ireallycare #caring #love
