A star member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has turned down the opportunity to become the best-paid player in the history of football.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Vinícius Jr. as the player in question.

Chatter surrounding the future of wide-man Vinícius, of course, first began to surface in Spain late on Sunday night.

This came amid confirmation that the Brazilian international was attracting interest by way of one of the leading clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

The 24-year-old, it was assured, rejected the move out of hand, with the brass at Real Madrid having not been open to discussions, either.

And now, with the dust having settled, an insight into the frankly staggering figures which would have been involved in the operation has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of the aforementioned Marca, and confirms that, had Vinícius accepted the proposal, tabled by Al-Ahli, he would have secured for himself the most lucrative pay packet in the game’s storied history:

‘The biggest contract in the world of sport is on the table. Hundreds of millions for Real Madrid and close to a billion for the player with a five-year contract, but both Vinícius Junior and the white club have not given any option to open a negotiation.’

Al-Ahli, it is added, have not yet given up in their pursuit of the frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or, but a transfer, as things stand, is considered as out of the question.
