Happy Wednesday! So, catch the insanity last night? Blazers-Thunder? Sharks-Golden Knights? Both?
If there was ever a case to be made for two TVs in the living room, Tuesday night was it.
Me, I started with hockey. Game 7s are special, but when Vegas took a 3-0 lead in the third, I switched over to Portland-OKC because, you know, Sharks were done.
Ten minutes later Twitter told me it was 4-3 San Jose and I missed all of it watching Damian Lilliard trade buckets with Paul George and Russ. Not a bad consolation, but Game 7s are special, so I switched back and got to see the Golden Knights tie it with under a minute to go, sending the game to OT.
Of course you stick there, right, because the series could be over at any second. Plus, OKC had raced out to a 15-point lead in the 4th, so that series was going another game. And then my phone blew up: “Lilliard drills game-winning 3 from near midcourt to hit 50 and send the Trail Balzers into the Western semifinals.”
That’s a lot to unpack, which again I missed because, yeah, Game 7.
Whiiiiiich went nearly the entire length of overtime and saw 22 shots (10 by Vegas, 12 by San Jose), any one of which could have ended it.
The Sharks finally did with under two to go in OT, completing an epic (if not controversial) comeback, and so ended one of those nights that will be talked about for a long time.
NBA results
It was a four-game night in the NBA playoffs. In addition to the Blazers finishing off OKC …
• The Raptors eliminated the Magic, salvaging something out of the night for the city of Toronto (sorry Leafs).
• The Nuggets took control of their series with the Spurs.
• The Sixers sent the Nets back to Brooklyn.
Report: Cardinals undecided on No. 1 pick
“I wouldn’t say the hay is in the barn,” claims Cards coach Kliff Kingsbury. Whether or not that’s the truth or simple posturing as they try to move Josh Rosen for something more than some hay for their barn, it looks like the suspense of whether or not Kyler Murray goes No. 1 will last a little while longer.
Chiefs trade for Seattle pass rusher Frank Clark
Our own Terez Paylor had the scoop: The Chiefs get some much-needed help for their d-line while the “we now owe Russell Wilson a lot of money and can’t pay anyone else” Seahawks get KC’s first-round pick on Thursday, a second-rounder in 2020 and a swapping of positions in this year’s third round. That’s a lot for KC to give up, but they know from Seattle’s experience that the window of a cheap, all-world QB on a rookie deal isn’t open for long.
