Here's one of the most unusual double plays you will see this season

The Kansas City Royals provided one of the more unusual double plays of the young season Wednesday in the early goings of a 10-2 win against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.

The fun started in the top of the second inning of a tie game with two of the league’s fastest runners on the corners: Royals right fielder Terrance Gore at third and center fielder Billy Hamilton at first.

Gore is the fastest player in MLB with a sprint speed of 30.9 feet per second. Hamilton is fifth overall at 29.6 feet per second.

Even two of the five fastest players couldn’t save the Royals.

Hamilton broke for first against lefty Blake Snell, who threw to first with Hamilton halfway to second. Then Gore broke for the plate, eliciting a throw home in plenty of time to catch him.

The Rays caught Gore in a rundown and completed the inning-ending double play by catching Hamilton halfway between second and third.

It all goes into the book as a 1-3-2-5-4 double play.

Whew.

Gore and Hamilton each went 2-for-4 at the bottom of the order. Hamilton had two RBIs, including an RBI-triple, and a run scored.
