Ray Tanner leaving his role as South Carolina’s athletic director
Ray Tanner will be stepping down as South Carolina athletic director.
The move was announced during USC’s board of trustees meeting on Friday.
“I’m reluctant to accept his change as athletic director,” USC President Michael Amiridis said in announcing the decision.
Tanner is moving into a new role as senior advisor to the president. He will remain on as athletic director until a new athletic director is found.
Tanner has been the school’s athletic director since August of 2012. Before that, he was Gamecocks baseball coach and led the program to back-to-back national championships.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
