Raptors unveil new alternate jerseys for upcoming season

The Toronto Raptors will don two sets of new digs this season, one is an homage to the city's history in the NBA and the other commemorates the Chinese New Year.

The first, an all-blue garb, is a nod to the 1946-47 Toronto Huskies that played in the NBA for just one season, but were the start of professional basketball in Canada. This year will be the 70th anniversary of that team, and the Dinos plan to wear the alternate jerseys in six home games over the first half of the season.

This isn't the first time the Raptors have shown pride in their Huskies heritage; a similar alternate jersey was also worn in the 2009-10 season, DeMar DeRozan's rookie year with the club.

This time out, the jerseys got a little bit of a makeover, but their simplistic design stays true to the original Huskies uniforms.

The second new kit, this one all red, features a dragon, which is a tribute to the significance the figure holds in Chinese history, along with three Chinese characters that directly translate to "Toronto" in Mandarin across the front.

Toronto isn't the first team to design special Chinese New Year gear as the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards have all done something similar in recent years. The Raptors will wear the jerseys for two home games immediately after the Chinese New Year on Jan. 28, 2017.
