Report: Raptors 'quietly optimistic' Anunoby can return for NBA Finals
With the city still buzzing over the Toronto Raptors securing their spot in the NBA Finals, it can be easy to forget that they have done it all without a key piece of their rotation.
OG Anunoby has been out since the postseason began due to an emergency appendectomy, but reports are suggesting that he may yet have a role to play before the NBA champion is crowned.
The Raptors are ‘quietly optimistic’ that the sophomore swingman could be available to return at some point during the NBA Finals, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun. Anunoby has been out of action since April 12, but has been slowly ramping up his workouts on and off court since the appendectomy.
He was even getting light work and shooting done on the court before Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks, the furthest he’s gone in his recovery.

The 21-year-old could provide some much-needed length and defensive acumen for the Raptors against the Golden State Warriors, as well as allowing the heavily relied upon Kawhi Leonard to take additional breathers in between carrying the load on both ends.
Anunoby appeared in 67 games this season, averaging 7.0 points and 2.9 rebounds in just over 20 minutes of action per game.
