Fun guy Kawhi Leonard pops champagne, has a blast after Raptors' championship

Kawhi Leonard was almost able to hide it for an entire season.

However, after helping the Toronto Raptors defeat the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night at Oracle Arena, his secret was exposed: The man is, in fact, a fun guy.

Sure, the stories have been told and the shirts created, but after the final buzzer in Toronto’s 114-110 Game 6 victory on Thursday night, the world saw plenty of video evidence of the 27-year-old having a blast.

First, he was living it up with Kyle Lowry on the floor moments after it became official.

Then, the champagne was cracked open. And once the bubbly was flowing, the man let his guard down and showed what he’s all about.

Look at the smile. Check out the swagger. That’s a man with the ability to enjoy himself.

“Last summer, man, (I) was going through a lot, was going through a lot and, you know, I had a great support system, I just kept working hard... and had my mind set on this goal right here,” said Leonard to ABC’s Doris Burke moments after being named the NBA Finals MVP, something he also achieved in 2014 with the San Antonio Spurs. “I came to a team, a new coach (whose) mindset was the same as mine, trying to get that Larry OB [O’Brien] over there and, you know, this is what I play basketball for...”

Despite reaching the pinnacle of his sport and getting hit with the emotion that comes with it, Leonard refused to show his hand when it comes to his future with the team.

“I’m about to enjoy this with my teammates and coaches,” he said. “And I’ll think about that later.”

No rush, Mr. Klaw. You’ve earned this moment.
