Rapper J. Cole makes Basketball Africa League debut with own music in warm-ups

J. Cole is officially a professional basketball player.

The rapper who recently released "The Off-Season," made his Basketball Africa League debut for the Rwanda Patriots BBC on Sunday in the inaugural meeting with Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club.

In an incredibly baller move he warmed to his own music.

Cole came off the bench and scored his first points with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Teammate Steve Hagumintwari missed a layup on the fast break, but Cole was there to tip it back in for the bucket. He added a technical free throw to finish with three points, three rebounds and two assists, including this one:

The Patriots won, 83-60. Cole, 36, is expected to play three games for the team this year. He was a standout at Stanford High School in North Carolina and walked on to the Division I St. John's University squad. Cole instead chose to focus on music and never played a game, The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears reported.

Cole has been training over the past year to join a professional team and the Detroit Pistons even offered him a tryout in August 2020 after video of a workout hit Twitter.
