Rams grant Nick Foles' request and release QB

You give a little, you get your freedom: the Los Angeles Rams have released Nick Foles, reportedly after the quarterback requested to be let go.

In exchange for the opportunity to hit the open market, ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Foles agreed to a lower guaranteed salary from the Rams.

The Rams acquired Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles 16 months ago, with the Eagles getting Sam Bradford in return, and signed him to a two-year extension worth $24.5 million (around $14 million guaranteed) shortly thereafter. Foles started the first 11 games of the season last year, with just seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions as the Rams went 4-7. He was benched for Case Keenum.

Los Angeles still has Keenum on its roster, but also drafted Jared Goff first overall this year.

One team that might be interested in Foles: San Francisco. While the 49ers have Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert, head coach Chip Kelly has a history – a successful history – with Foles.

In 2013, while both were with Philadelphia, Foles had 27 touchdowns against just two interceptions in 13 starts, including a seven-touchdown game in Oakland.
