Rams say DE Robert Quinn 'stable' after family members say he suffered seizures

Defensive end Robert Quinn admitted himself to a hospital on Monday morning with a “non-football related illness” and is in stable condition, the Los Angeles Rams said in a statement.

The Rams beat the New York Jets, 9-6, on Sunday at MetLife Stadium before flying back to the West Coast. Quinn played 50 of the 60 defensive snaps in the game, recording one tackle, one QB hit and two passes defended.

On Monday morning, there were multiple messages on social media from people believed to be family members — including Quinn’s sister and brother — indicating that Quinn had suffered multiple seizures.

Although the family members later took the posts down, there were screenshots taken prior:

As a senior in high school, Quinn had a benign brain tumor removed. Although his final season there was cut short, he made a full recovery, resumed his football career at North Carolina and was a first-round pick in 2011.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said Quinn is still undergoing tests and would not specify the nature of them or of Quinn’s condition. Via ESPN, Fisher said “things look encouraging” and that Quinn told him he “just wants to get back on the practice field.” Fisher also added that it was “highly unlikely” the condition was related to the brain tumor.

A tweet from Quinn’s official Twitter account was posted Monday afternoon, but it’s unclear what it meant or if he posted.

Quinn, 26, is in his sixth NFL season — all with the Rams. He has played in seven games this season (six starts) and recorded eight tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles, missing two games with a shoulder injury.

The Rams placed Quinn on injured reserve late in the 2015 season with a back injury.
