Rampage Jackson Granted Catchweight for UFC 186

It's been a rocky road to UFC 186 for Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but UFC officials smoothed out one of the biggest bumps in his path on Friday, granting a catch weight for his bout with Fabio Maldonado at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Rampage left his Bellator MMA contract behind and inked a deal with the UFC in December. Shortly thereafter, he was scheduled to meet Maldonado at UFC 186. Then, at the beginning of April, a New Jersey court granted Bellator an injunction that forced Rampage out of the fight while the two sides argued whether or not Rampage was within his rights to opt out of his contract with Bellator.

The UFC moved swiftly to replace him with Steve Bosse. In a list ditch effort, however, Rampage's team was successful in getting the court to lift the injunction earlier this week, putting him back in the UFC 186 co-main event.

Needless to say, it was a stressful time for Rampage, which he admitted in this media day scrum with reporters in Montreal.

Realizing what a stress it put on Rampage, UFC officials on Friday announced that his bout with Maldonado would be granted a 215-pound catchweight limit instead of the originally agreed upon light heavyweight limit of 205 pounds.

“I'm on weight thanks Dana for allowing the catch weight.. do to late arrival to Montreal,” Rampage posted to his Instagram account on Friday, with UFC officials confirming the weight-limit change to MMAWeekly.com.

Barring some last-minute quirky incident, that should be the final hurdle to ensuring the fight takes place on Saturday, as planned.
