Most commonly associated with the festive period, sequins tend to get a seasonal rollout in December before being promptly relegated to the back of the wardrobe on New Year's Day. Out of sight and out of mind for the next 11 months.
Not this season though. The SS23 catwalks decided we could do with a little sparkle with twinkling adornments spotted at Chloé, 16Arlington, Valentino, Brandon Maxwell, and Halpern, to name a few. Fashion magpies rejoice.
The key to nailing the trend for spring/summer is to stick to a light colour palette and loose and flowy silhouettes. If in doubt, lean into the popular mermaidcore aesthetic (thanks Halle Bailey) with sequins lending a fluid, water-like quality.
If you're still not sure, Vick Hope just gave us all a lesson on how to do summer sequins when she attended the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition Preview Party in London last night. Take a look:
Wearing a checked sequined tulle bralette and matching high-waisted maxi skirt, it will come as no surprise to fashion girlies in the know that Vick's 'fit is by none other than Ashish, the so-called 'King of Sequins'. The bra top is a classic style with ruched detailing while the maxi skirt sits high on Vick's waist before falling to the floor. A show-stopping design in itself that is further elevated by the all-over embellishment of high-octane sequins.
Vick finished her lewk with metallic heels and a black clutch bag, both by Jimmy Choo, and accessorised with a selection of gold jewellery including a chain necklace and stack of bangles from Annoushka Jewellery and Alexis Bittar. She also wore a variety of gold rings from Galleria Armadoro.

If opting for a co-ord feels too formal, why not try pairing a sequin top with wide-leg jeans for a more laid-back approach? Or try a sequin skirt with a white t-shirt to take you everywhere from the office to drinks with the girls. It's never been easier to inject a little shimmer to your summer wardrobe.
The fiancée of Calvin Harris has worn some daring looks this year, like the cut-out halterneck dress she rocked on the Brit Awards red carpet back in February. And more recently, she chose an AGGI neon orange three-piece suit consisting of another bra top paired with high-waisted tailored trousers and an oversized blazer.
Long may this style streak continue.
