QMJHL Roundup: Campbell, Beaudoin lead Cataractes over Oceanic to level series

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Charles Beaudoin and Isiah Campbell scored two goals each as the Shawinigan Cataractes easily defeated the Rimouski Oceanic 7-1 on Saturday in Game 2 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series.

Rimouski opened the scoring through Ludovic Soucy in the first period before the Cataractes scored seven straight goals.

Beaudoin gave Shawinigan the 2-1 lead with 3:22 remaining in the first and the Cataractes never looked back. The Cataractes winger also had two assists for a four-point night.

William Veillette and Marc-Antoine Pepin had two assists apiece.

Shawinigan tied the best-of-five first-round series 1-1 after dropping the opener 1-0 on Friday.

The 12 Quebec-based teams are playing best-of-five series in four hub cities.

MONCTON -- Jacob Hudson scored and added two assists as Moncton (1-2-0) downed Saint John (1-2-0) in the 2021 President Cup Series. Jacob Stewart had two helpers and Dakota Lund-Cornish stopped 22 shots in the win.

The nine-game round-robin tournament features the Wildcats, Sea Dogs and Acadie-Bathurst Titan. The winner will face the Charlottetown Islanders in the Maritimes Division final.

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. -- Seven different players found the back of the net for Val-d'Or in the opening game of their five-game series against Baie-Comeau. Forward Justin Robidas scored and added two assists for a team-high three-point night. The Foreurs outshot the Drakkar 55-29.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. -- Chicoutimi took a 2-0 series lead over Sherbrooke after a three-point performance by forward Dawson Mercer (one goal, two assists). The game was tied 3-3 near the end of the second period when Vincent Fredette scored the winner.
