PWHL Plans To Look At All Options For Expansion Without "Guardrails"
The PWHL is not limiting itself to NHL market, to a balance of Canadian or American markets, or to the need to expand immediately at all.
As the league, according to senior vice president of business operations Amy Scheer said, the league will be evaluating markets without "guardrails."
The no limitations approach looks to allow the team to find the best fit for the PWHL, not simply a market that was the best fit for another league.
As well, the league's primary focus, according to Scheer, remains on ensuring the on ice talent level does not dip.
"We may add two teams, we may add zero," Scheer said.
"The goal is to expand at a rate in which the talent of hockey can support," she added.
Scheer and PWHL senior vice president of hockey operations Jayna Hefford addressed the media this week field questions not only on expansion, but on broadcasting, the PWHL's Takeover Tour, rule changes, the dismissal of Natalie Darwitz, and more.
The PWHL is set to enter their second season beginning November 30 with nine neutral site games scheduled as part of the league's Takeover Tour bringing games to Vancouver, Seattle, Edmonton, Denver, St. Louis, Detroit, Buffalo, Quebec City, and Raleigh.
