"He jumped to get out of the way and when he landed he caught an edge," Friars head coach Nate Leaman said. "It wasn't a hit. There was no contact."

Although Connelly did not return to the game, Leaman revealed that it is not a serious injury.

"It doesn't look to be long term," he said. "Doc said everything looked pretty stable. We'll get an MRI to be cautious."

Drafted by the Golden Knights in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Connelly has seen two games with the Friars thus far, putting up an assist.

Before making the jump to the NCAA this season, Connelly spent two seasons playing for the USHL's Tri-City Storm, collecting 78 points in 52 games in 2023-24.

Although Connelly will likely miss a few games, it is certainly a good sign that he avoided a long term injury. As Providence looks to keep up in a competitive Hockey East conference, they will need Connelly along with their other top players to be in the lineup on a nightly basis.
