Prince William is reportedly planning to "fight back" against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'attack' on the royal family and has urged the Queen to respond "more robustly".

After William's response to reporters that the royal family is "very much not a racist family" a royal expert has claimed his choice of wording was very well thought through.

According to the Daily Express, TalkRADIO host Kevin O'Sullivan told PR agent Mark Borkowski that William's words "would have been arranged".

"I detect from that Prince William there, I think he feels the Palace should be responding more robustly to the charges laid out in the interview," he said.

"Those kind of moments are extremely rare. They are usually organised, I would imagine."

Speaking with Charlie Rae, the former royal editor of The Sun, Kevin added: "I think it indicates that Prince William is in one hell of a mood to fight back against Harry and Meghan's charges, not just the racism, but against the royal family generally and against this country."

Charlie disagreed, saying: "You could see Prince William's gritted teeth through that mask he was wearing. He was furious.

"I disagree with you that it was staged. I think William took the opportunity to make those very valid comments."

William told reporters at the time he had not yet spoken with his brother after watching the interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Buckingham Palace issued a response to the interview two days later following crisis meetings with senior royals.

The statement read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

Prince Harry told Oprah that he and Prince William’s relationship needs ‘space’ at the moment, but stressed that he will always love his brother.

"I love William to bits, he’s my brother, we’ve been through hell together, we have a shared experience, but we were on different paths.”

"The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”

Following the interview, Harry and Meghan's popularity has fallen among the British public according to a YouGov survey. Among US viewers, however, Meghan's popularity grew.

Prince William and Kate Middleton remain very popular, with about 75 per cent of Britons favouring them.

The Queen is still the most popular royal figure, with 80 per cent supporting her.
