Yahoo Sports Premier League wrap: Man City flubs again at home, while Raúl Jiménez wins game for Wolves (video)
If there’s to be any hope of a genuine title race the rest of this Premier League season, Manchester City simply can’t drop points like it did on Saturday.
City scored a late goal and conceded an even later equalizer in a white-knuckle 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at home, falling even further behind Liverpool.
Elsewhere, Mexican international Raúl Jiménez scored both the equalizer and the winner as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Southampton 3-2, and Bournemouth drew Norwich City in a match with a memorable red card.
Crystal Palace stuns Manchester City
A nervy affair at the Etihad spun into something else over the final 10 minutes.
Cenk Tosun’s goal toward the end of the first half was standing up before Sergio Aguero followed his history-making hat trick last weekend with two goals in five minutes.
He skied for his second and snapped a header far-post to fire City in front:
City couldn’t see it out, however, as Fernandinho’s own goal in the 90th minute sent Palace and its traveling contingent into celebration:
Thanks to the result, City is now 13 points behind Liverpool in the table. Even worse, the Reds have two games in hand.
City isn’t having a bad season, but the club’s fallen well short of the standards it set the previous two years, and stumbles against inferior competition have played a key role. Tottenham, Manchester United, Wolves and now Palace have all left the Etihad with points.
Liverpool is avoiding those bad results. And running away in the title race in the process.
Raúl Jiménez brace propels Wolves
Southampton carried the momentum of last week’s demons expungement into Saturday’s game vs. Wolves and went ahead 2-0 before the visitors came to life.
Raúl Jiménez tied the game in the 65th minute by converting a penalty VAR confirmed after checking Jonny’s foul in the box. Barely 10 minutes later, Jiménez punched home Adama Traoré’s pass for the winner:
Jiménez has now scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, and 19 overall.
While Chicharito stole headlines this week and Carlos Vela voiced support of his Mexican teammates joining MLS, let’s not lose sight of what Jiménez is doing for Wolves.
Bournemouth defender red carded for making save
Steve Cook went full Luis Suarez in an effort to keep Norwich City off the scoreboard, but his efforts were for naught as Norwich won 1-0 thanks to Teemu Pukki’s ensuing penalty.

Those are commendable reflexes from Cook, though the wisdom is decidedly in doubt, especially with teammate Adam Smith seemingly in position to clear the shot anyway.
Perhaps it speaks to the pressure of this fixture. Norwich and Bournemouth are the bottom two teams in the table, and a loss would have plunged Norwich nine points clear in the cellar.
Bournemouth is trying to avoid falling into such a predicament. Decisions like Cook’s won’t help much.
