Michigan State offensive lineman Thiyo Lukusa apparently hasn’t enjoyed football for a while.

Lukusa, who played in eight games as a freshman in 2016, won’t play for Michigan State in 2017. He told the Detroit Free Press in a phone interview that he his passion for the game had waned in recent years and led to a decision to quit playing.

“I really haven’t been in love with football since I was in high school,” Lukusa said via phone. “It’s been awhile, probably since I was a sophomore or junior. I went home for Christmas and had a great time with my family Up North — just being away from football and doing other things and working out and playing basketball and running.

“I had been thinking about not playing for a long time. I finally just decided that I’m gonna go through with it and kind of weather the storm, whatever it brings.

The Free Press notes Lukusa was projected to be the team’s starter at right tackle as a sophomore. Potential role aside, it’s impossible to fault Lukusa from not wanting to play if he found himself not enjoying football as much.

Lukusa posted a farewell message to Instagram with a note that said he’d be lying if he said he had fun and told the paper he’s currently enrolled at a community college in Michigan.

I would lie and say it was fun but it'd be a lie. Miss Matty and the boys though.

Michigan State signed four offensive linemen to scholarships in the class of 2017, including a four-star recruit (Kevin Jarvis) and three three-star players.
