Podcast: Is there enough time for Miami Marlins to put themselves into contention?

A few key dates on the Major League Baseball calendar are approaching.

July 17: The final game before the All-Star Break.

Aug. 2: The MLB trade deadline.

The former is the latest that the Miami Marlins will have to consider if there’s the possibility that they could be in the playoff hunt.

The latter is when moves, one way or the other, are likely to be made.

And while the Marlins are by no means guaranteed to be in the playoffs — they entered their seven-game road trip against the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals six games out of the National League’s final wild card spot — they are still hovering around the periphery of staying relevant for contention, one big win streak or one lull away from being on either side of the conversation.

On the latest episode of Fish Bytes, Miami Herald Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez examine where Miami stands and looks at the schedule ahead to see what needs to be done and if there’s enough time for the Marlins to put themselves in a secure enough spot in the playoff race when the trade deadline arrives.
