Player Ratings: Juventus 2-2 Fiorentina – Recurring Bianconeri issues, inspiring De Gea and Kean
A Khephren Thuram brace was not enough for Juventus to secure a win against Fiorentina as Moise Kean and David De Gea inspired a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus and Fiorentina shared points in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. It was a match characterised by defensive blunders on both sides.
The final result is indeed more favourable to the visitors, not only because Riccardo Sottil scored the equaliser with just three minutes remaining.
Of all the defenders involved in the game, only Fiorentina’s Dodo was partially convincing despite a poor start.
Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu and Federico Gatti had a bad night and were in the wrong position when Kean scored Fiorentina’s first equaliser before the break.
The same is true of Nicolò Savona in the second half, even if Andrea Cambiaso made the most significant mistake leading to Fiorentina’s late goal.
Raffaele Palladino made the right substitutions, giving more solidity to a midfield that had been hammered by Marcus Thuram’s physicality.
David De Gea produced a couple of crucial saves to keep Fiorentina in the game and help the Tuscans earn an important against their arch-rivals.
Juventus vs Fiorentina – player ratings
Juventus: Di Gregorio 6; Savona 5, Gatti 5.5 (89′ Fagioli N/A), Kalulu 5, McKennie 5.5 (63′ Cambiaso 4.5); Locatelli 6.5, Thuram 8 (89′ Douglas Luiz N/A); Conceicao 6.5, Koopmeiners 6, Mbangula 5 (63′ Yildiz 5.5); Vlahovic 5.5 (82′ Nico Gonzalez N/A). Coach: Thiago Motta 5.5.
Best Juventus player: Thuram 8 – An easy pick. The Frenchman didn’t only score twice, but he was dominant in central midfield for over one hour.
Lowest Juventus rating: Cambiaso 4.5 – Entered the pitch for the final 30 minutes but was responsible for Fiorentina’s second goal as he slipped before kicking the ball on the edge of the Bianconeri’s box, leading to the Tuscans’ equaliser. His teammates did the rest.
Thiago Motta 5.5 – Unconvincing substitutions and, more worryingly, his Juventus side is unable to kill off the games. Still three points below the top four.
Fiorentina: De Gea 7.5; Dodò 6, Comuzzo 5.5, Ranieri 5.5 , Parisi 5.5 (75′ Gosens 6); Cataldi 5.5 (65′ Mandragora 6), Adli 6 (76′ Richardson 6); Colpani 5 (75′ Ikoné 6), Gudmundsson 5 (59′ Beltran 6.5), Sottil 6.5; Kean 7.5. Coach: Palladino 6.5.
Best Fiorentina players: De Gea and Kean 7.5 – Lecce director Pantaleo Corvino says: ‘You can get the wrong wife, but you can get the striker and the goalkeeper wrong.’ Fiorentina followed the advice last summer. The pair once again played a key role for the Viola. Kean scored the equaliser in the first half and attracted three Juventus players in the second half, leading to Sottil’s late strike. Reborn.
Lowest Fiorentina rating: Colpani and Gudmundsson 5 – A few good touches here and there for both, but they were never dangerous. Fiorentina need much more from them to remain close to the top four.
Palladino 6.5 – A wise use of substitutions contributed to an important draw. Fiorentina played good football in the second half, especially after Kean’s goal.
