Plane flies banner above Panthers’ arena calling for coach’s dismissal (Photo)
It hasn’t been the best season for the Florida Panthers. An early slump, coupled with injuries to Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov played a factor in head coach Gerard Gallant’s firing and will end with the franchise in a familiar place: missing the playoffs.
Tom Rowe has posted a 22-25-10 record since taking over from Gallant on an interim basis, and that hasn’t been good enough for some — particularly one Panthers fan who decided to get creative in expressing their displeasure.

Flying above BB&T Arena before Monday’s Panthers game against the Montreal Canadiens was a plane carrying the banner ROWE MUST GO! CALL HIM A CAB!, with the cab line a throwback to the night Gallant was fired.

According to the Miami Herald’s George Richards, there were brief Rowe Must Go! chants inside the arena early in the game, so people have noticed the banner, whether from being outside or seeing it via social media. The Panthers still have two home games remaining., so it will be interesting to see if this carries over.

There have been some bright spots this year, like Jonathan Marchessault’s 30 goals and strong seasons from Barkov (when healthy) and Vincent Trocheck; but there’s been too many not-so-good memories like Aaron Ekblad’s concussion issues, Nick Bjugstad’s injuries and the down season in general. And Florida is limping into the summer with only five wins in their last 21 games.

Rowe has said he would like to remain behind the bench, but a final decision will be made after the season.
