Placer County car chase ends in Penryn Road crash. Suspect pronounced dead at scene

A suspect died in a car crash after a chase with Placer County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday morning.

Just after 2 a.m., deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop for a car on Penryn Road, just off Interstate 80, near a 76 gas station, according to a tweet from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. The motorist drove away from deputies and a pursuit began.

Deputies said the suspect crashed near Penryn Estates Drive, roughly a mile north of the gas station. The driver, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as a male adult, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Penryn Road between Taylor Road and Interstate 80 was closed for investigation for several hours, deputies said.

Angela Musallam, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said no further information was available Sunday morning.
