Yahoo Sports Steelers reach 4-year, $75.1 million extension with DT Cameron Heyward
The Pittsburgh Steelers made sure to lock down their star defensive lineman before the season officially kicks off this week.
The Steelers and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward agreed to a four-year, $75.1 million extension, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Steelers later confirmed the deal. The extension makes Heyward the highest-paid defensive player over the age of 30 in league history, per the report.
The 31-year-old had one year left on his six-year, $59 million deal with the team. His new deal includes the last year of his current deal, adding more than $65 million in new money.
Heyward all but confirmed the deal in a tweet on Sunday night, posting a video of his head on Leonardo DiCaprio’s body from a scene in “The Wolf of Wall Street” as several Steelers teammates are seen on the heads of other characters.

Heyward has spent all nine seasons in the league with the Steelers, who selected him No. 31 overall in the 2011 draft. The three-time Pro Bowler recorded 83 total tackles last season, a career high. He also serves as the team’s representative to the NFLPA and is a defensive captain.
The Steelers are set to open their season on Sept. 14 on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants.
