Activities near the waterfront are ramping up.

The Waterfront Farmers Market in Gig Harbor opens at 1 p.m. on June 1 at Skansie Brothers Park, 3207 Harborview Dr.

The market will take place every Thursday until Sept. 14 from 1-6 p.m. and will feature more than 40 vendors, live entertainment and activities.

Visitors will find “a selection of fresh produce, delicious homemade treats, and a vibrant community atmosphere,” the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance said on Instagram.

Some are curious why the market’s hours are shorter this year. In previous years the market ended at 7 p.m.

“There historically hasn’t been enough traffic that last hour and it’s hard to get volunteers to help that late,” they said on Instagram. “The timeframe (5 hours) also aligns with most markets in WA state. But we will see how it goes this season and if the demand is there next year we may change it.”

On opening day, Elijah Bosenbroek will play the piano.

The Kids Corner will feature activities with Harbor WildWatch, a scavenger hunt and art projects.

The full list of live entertainment and activities at the market this summer is available at waterfrontfarmersmarket.org/events.

Each Thursday will have a new theme. June 1 is themed: “Opening Day.”
