A Shelton motorcyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Friday evening after being hit head on by a pickup truck on State Route 3 in Mason County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 60-year-old Allyn woman was driving a 2011 Ford Ranger pickup truck south on SR 3 at milepost 26 south of Belfair just before 5:30 p.m. Friday, and a 78-year-old man was riding a 2012 BMW F650 motorcycle north when the pickup truck crossed the center turn lane and hit the motorcycle head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.

The pickup driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, but could face vehicular assault charges, according to a State Patrol memo. There was no indication alcohol or drugs were involved, WSP said. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The motorcycle was totaled and the vehicle had reportable damage.
