Phil Costa: Football took a toll on body

Center Phil Costa's NFL career was a lot briefer than expected.

But at just 26 years old, the game became too much for him. Injuries began to nag him and keep him sidelined. In 2012, he dislocated his ankle and didn't play much in 2013 as a result.

Costa, through his agent, released a statement to the Dallas Morning News explaining why he decided to abruptly retire.

“Unfortunately, the day-to-day physical rigor of the NFL season has taken a toll on my body and has been a driving force behind my decision,” Costa said.
