PGA Championship 2021: Jordan Spieth is the most-bet golfer, while a Justin Thomas win could net a bettor $150K
Bettors are liking Jordan Spieth’s chances to net a career Grand Slam.
Spieth (+1400) is the most popular bet to win the PGA Championship at BetMGM. Over 8% of bets placed on golfers to win the tournament have been placed on Spieth and those tickets account for over 10 percent of the book’s handle.
Spieth has won the Masters, the U.S. Open and the British Open in his career. A win in the PGA Championship would make Spieth the sixth golfer to win the modern Grand Slam.
Bettors also like his chances to get into the top five. The most-bet prop at BetMGM is Spieth to finish in the top five at +300. That bet is more popular than a Will Zalatoris top 20 (+180) and a Viktor Hovland top 10 (+200).
If you think there will be a hole-in-one in the first round you can get odds at +400. You can also bet either Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas or Spieth to win the tournament. A bet on those three vs. the field is at +333.
Biggest bet on Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas is the third-most bet golfer (5.5% of tickets) right behind Dustin Johnson (5.7%). And one bettor will win a lot of cash if Thomas wins the tournament.
A bettor at BetMGM placed a $10,000 wager on Thomas (+1500) to win his second PGA Championship. That win would net $150,000. This bettor clearly didn't agree with our advice earlier in the week to stay away from Thomas, Johnson and Brooks Koepka.
While there’s a big bet on Thomas to win the tournament, Johnson’s odds have increased. His odds have jumped from +1100 to +1600. Conversely, McIlroy has dropped from +1600 to +1200 and Hovland has gone from +2500 to +2000. He’s the fifth-most popular bet to win the tournament behind Spieth, Johnson, Thomas, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Sergio Garcia (+6600) is bettors' most popular pick to be leading at the end of the first round.
