Petr Mrazek with save of the year candidate vs. Canadiens (Video)

Detroit Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek made one of those saves on Saturday night that you want to rewind and watch again.

One of those saves that elbows an NHL highlight into the ESPN top 10 plays of the day, even those it’s rivalry week in college football. One of those saves where if we didn’t tell you the year and the player, you might have assumed it was Dominik Hasek. It was that good.

In the first period against the Montreal Canadiens, the visitors were buzzing on the Detroit zone. The puck was shot to the crease by Andrei Markov. It bounced through to Artturi Lehkonen of the Canadiens.

Look at the gaping maw of the net he sees as the puck arrives:

Now look how fast Mrazek gets that glove up:

Immaculate.

Save of the year candidate right there, and an indication, based on his dexterity, that Mrazek didn’t have that third helping of stuffing like the rest of us.

And a reminder that this is the kind of save that he can make that Jimmy Howard doesn’t, which always keeps the goalie conversation interesting in Detroit.
