Paso Robles High grad scores his first NFL touchdown in Ravens’ win

A Paso Robles High School graduate marked a career accomplishment with his first NFL touchdown on Sunday.

Josh OIiver, a 6-foot-5 tight end who graduated in 2015, caught a 1-yard pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson with 8:39 left in the third quarter to make it 21-20 (after the extra point kick by Justin Miller).

The Ravens (2-1) went on to beat the New England Patriots (1-2) 37-26.

On play action, Jackson dropped back and found Oliver cutting to the left to find a seam in the Patriots’ defense. Oliver hauled in the catch before spiking the ball in celebration.

Teammates came over to cheer the moment on a pivotal play to give Baltimore the lead.

“Josh Oliver (Paso Robles) has caught first career TD pass in NFL for Baltimore Ravens,” said Cal-Hi Sports on Twitter. “It also seems to be the first-ever TD scored by someone from Paso Robles in the NFL in its 121 years of existence.”

After attending San Jose State, where he caught 98 passes for 1,067 yards in four seasons, Oliver began his NFL career in 2019 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and has recorded 14 catches for 89 yards between his stints with the Ravens and Jaguars.

Oliver, 25, suffered a foot injury in 2020 while playing with Jaguars and sat out that season on injured reserve.

“Feels good to be back,” he tweeted in April about training for the 2022 season.

Oliver’s father, Rene, played college football at Cal Poly, and his uncle, Clancy, was a defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Cardinals; Oliver’s second cousin, Darren, pitched for 20 seasons in Major League Baseball, according to the Ravens’ media guide.
